GETTING TO YEMAYA
Hop, skip and a jump!
Step 1: Arriving to Managua
Several international airlines fly to Managua including United, Delta, American Airlines, Copa, AeroMexico, Spirit, Avianca, and Veca.
Step 2: Fly to Big Corn Island
Flights from Managua to Big Corn Island are operated by La Costeña airline, which is right next to the Managua Airport (Augusto C. Sandino International Airport). When you exit the Managua Airport doors, turn left and walk to the end of the airport, and you will see the La Costeña terminal. (5 minute walk). You can either ask us to book and pay for your La Costeña flights or you can book them yourself. Online www.lacostena.com.ni or via a phone call +505 2298 5360. You can ask for an English speaking assistant. If you have any issues please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we can assist you with this process. Return flights cost $170 usd per person and are non-refundable. Date changes cost $30 per ticket.
Your flight ticket price does not include airport taxes ($2 USD per person), which can be paid directly at La Costeña’s check in area.It is advised that you make reservations in advance, as seats can be limited at last minute (especially during busy periods). Please note that you can only take 30 lbs of checked luggage and a single carry-on with you. More than this will incur a charge of $1.20 per additional pound.
Flights currently run 2-3 times daily from Managua. Please be aware that flights from Managua sometimes stop on the way to Big Corn Islnd at Bluefields airport for 10 to 15 minutes to let passengers on or off.
PLEASE NOTE: We strongly suggest that you book the afternoon flight from Managua to Big Corn Island, and also the afternoon flight when you return again from Big Corn Island to Managua. These flights allow you to book a seat on Yemaya Express, which is our guest transport cabin cruiser. Also it allows you to arrive and be checked straight into your room rather than waiting for several hours if you arrive on the early morning flight.
Step 3: Boat to Little Corn Island
Once you land on Big Corn Island, you will see taxis waiting outside the little arrival area. They will take you to the public wharf for $60 cordobas which is $2 usd.
From the wharf, you have some options to choose from:
1. The Public Panga
You can wait for the public panga (a big open boat that seats up to 30 guests in pretty cramped seats) to leave for the Little Corn Island town dock ($7 usd per person). From the Little Corn town dock you can walk to Yemaya (about 30 minutes across the island) or take another small boat to Yemaya ($15 usd per person). We can arrange to meet you at the dock and take you across to Yemaya, or arrange the small transport boat, but you must contact us with your travel details. If for some reason you do not show up as planned and you did not cancel, we will charge a fee of $25 usd.
PLEASE NOTE: this trip in the public panga can be cancelled due to bad weather on occasion. Also, the ride can be very bumpy, uncomfortable and you will get wet. Be prepared for this so you are not completely surprised!
2. Our own boat, Yemaya Express
Yemaya has invested in a guest transport cabin cruiser. We schedule one trip each day from Yemaya to Big Corn Island and then back again to Yemaya on Little Corn Island. The cost is $50 usd per person each way. This boat is much more comfortable than the public panga, only carries our hotel guests, and has a big cabin with ferry style seating so that you can stay dry if the weather is not great.
